The LCN 4640-3018 is the OEM mounting plate assembly for the LCN 4640 Series Auto Equalizer low-energy door operator. It is the primary operator body - the complete structural and mechanical assembly that mounts above the door opening and houses the core operating components. Per the LCN 4640 parts manual, Item 7 in the 4640 diagram, the 4640-3018 mounting plate assembly includes the cylinder body, two stand-offs (4640-182), on/off switch assembly (4640-3179-1), hold open switch assembly (4640-3179-2), switch endcap (4640-334), and the motor/clutch assembly (4640-3454). Finish must be specified at time of order.
This is the major assembly replacement for the 4640 Series operator - not a bracket or trim piece. The $5,210 list price reflects the complete pre-assembled operator body with all internal components included.
What the LCN 4640 Auto Equalizer Is
The 4640 Series Auto Equalizer is LCN's established low-energy automatic door operator for applications where primarily manual operation is standard but powered automatic opening is occasionally needed - accessible building entrances, lobby doors, and high-traffic public access points. The 4640 is built around the LCN 4040 heavy-duty door closer as its core mechanism. The door closer handles the closing and return-to-rest function at all times, including during power failures. The electric motor adds a powered push-side opening when activated. If power is lost, the 4640 continues operating as a standard 4040 door closer without any service disruption.
The 4640 meets ANSI/BHMA A156.19, is UL listed for use on labeled fire doors, and complies with ADA and ANSI A117.1 accessibility requirements. Maximum rated door weight is 225 lbs. Manual opening reaches up to 100 degrees. The powered opening delivers up to 90 degrees. The digital control box (4640-3462) manages timing, sequential door functions, electric strike coordination, and adjustment of opening speed and force - all on-controllers without external programming equipment.
LCN Mounting Plate Assembly: What's Included in the 4640-3018
The mounting plate assembly is the structural header that spans the door opening width and houses the integrated operator components. What ships with the 4640-3018 per the LCN parts manual includes the cylinder assembly, two 4640-182 stand-offs that position the plate correctly above the door frame, the on/off switch assembly (4640-3179-1) for basic armed/disarmed control, the hold open switch assembly (4640-3179-2) for timed hold-open functionality, the switch endcap (4640-334), and the 4640-3454 motor/clutch assembly.
The "no destruct" feature is built into the motor/clutch assembly inside this mounting plate. If the door is manually overridden during a powered opening cycle, the clutch absorbs the load rather than transmitting it into the motor gears. Internal components are protected from force-through damage in high-use or high-abuse applications.
Standard mounting dimensions: 12-5/32" height, 1-7/8" width, 33-1/2" length. Flush ceiling mount configuration: 12-3/8" height, 2-11/16" width, 33-1/2" length. The non-sized cylinder in the 4640 Series is adjustable from size 2 through size 5 and ships pre-set at size 3. For reveal depths of 4.5" to 8", the 4642 L Long Arm is required.
LCN Door Operator Parts: What the 4640-3018 Does Not Include
The mounting plate assembly (4640-3018) ships without the digital controller (4640-3462) and without the ribbon cable connector (4640-3498-1) and AC power cable (4640-3498-2). These are ordered separately. The cover and cover screws are also not part of this assembly. Confirm which accessories are needed before completing the order to avoid a partial installation.
The companion 4642-3071 Cast Iron Cylinder Assembly is the alternative complete assembly that also includes the mounting plate, motor/clutch, I/O board, and controller in a single unit for applications requiring cast iron construction.
