In correctional and secure institutional applications, the round profile has no flat surface that could serve as a leverage point for improvised mechanical attack, and the absence of a shaped grip area reduces mechanical advantage for attempts to force or twist the lever past its operating range. When these environments also require tactile warning identification on specific doors, the 03-230-8TR provides the Tubular profile with the required tactile surface at the inside trim position while maintaining the same level of physical robustness associated with the Tubular lever design throughout the building.

03-230-8TR as the Inside Companion to the 03-200-8TR

A complete Tubular Tactile trim assembly for a hazardous area door with SFIC cylinders requires two matched levers. The outside trim position uses the 03-200-8TR (Tubular Tactile SFIC Lever Less Core), which carries the SFIC cylinder housing at the corridor or exterior face. The inside trim position uses the 03-230-8TR, which provides the same Tubular profile and tactile surface at the interior face with no cylinder housing. Both levers pair with the 03-042-RHO (Rhodes Rose) at their respective trim positions in the matching finish, as confirmed in the official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual.

The 03-230-8TR does not carry the optional break-away feature. Per the official Schlage ALX Series Data Sheet, the break-away option is available exclusively on Rhodes levers. Among the four tactile closed levers in the 03-230 family, only the 03-230-8RO (Rhodes Tactile Closed Lever) offers break-away protection. When break-away and Tubular profile are both project requirements for the same door, those two specifications cannot be met simultaneously with a Schlage OEM closed lever in the standard catalog.
