Three Legacy Part Numbers: What They Mean for Replacement Orders
The 03-231-ATH replaces three legacy part numbers, as confirmed on the SecurityParts.com product page. Each legacy number covered a specific application type before the current 03-231 prefix system was introduced.
- 03-031-ATH: The original cylindrical lock application part number. Used in maintenance records and specifications for cylindrical lock outside trim positions using a KIL cylinder.
- 09-331-ATH: The original mortise lock application part number. The 09 prefix in the old Schlage system identified mortise trim applications. If an existing specification or work order lists 09-331-ATH, the current replacement is the 03-231-ATH.
- 03-331-ATH: The original exit device trim application part number. Used for outside trim on exit device configurations requiring an Athens-profile KIL lever.
The current 03-231-ATH consolidates all three application types under one part number. When sourcing a replacement Athens KIL lever, any of these three legacy references now maps to the 03-231-ATH regardless of whether the original installation was on a cylindrical lock, mortise lock, or exit device.
03-231-ATH vs 03-231-8AT: Standard vs Tactile Athens KIL Lever
The 03-231-ATH and the 03-231-8AT (Athens Tactile Lever Less Cylinder) are both Athens KIL levers. Both ship less cylinder and cover keyed ND Series and ALX Series functions. The key differences are the lever handle surface and the series coverage.
The 03-231-ATH has a smooth handle surface with no tactile texture. The 03-231-8AT has a raised tactile surface for hazardous area door identification. The 03-231-ATH also covers the NDE Series and is documented in five Service Manuals. The 03-231-8AT covers four Service Manuals and does not include the NDE Series. When replacing a standard Athens KIL lever, the 03-231-ATH is the correct part. The 03-231-8AT applies only at doors where the tactile designation was originally specified.
