• 03-031-RHO: Original part number for cylindrical lock outside trim positions using the Rhodes KIL lever.
• 09-331-RHO: Original part number for mortise lock trim applications. The 09 prefix in the legacy Schlage system identified mortise trim levers. If a specification or maintenance record references 09-331-RHO, the current OEM replacement is the 03-231-RHO.
• 03-331-RHO: Original part number for exit device outside trim applications using the Rhodes KIL lever. If a work order references 03-331-RHO, the current part is the 03-231-RHO.

The 03-231-RHO covers all three application types under one current part number, regardless of whether the original installation was on a cylindrical lock, mortise lock, or exit device.

Standard vs Tactile: 03-231-RHO vs 03-231-8RO

The 03-231-RHO is the standard non-tactile Rhodes KIL lever. The 03-231-8RO is the tactile version with a raised surface on the handle for hazardous area door identification. Both use the Rhodes lever profile and the KIL format, and both cover the same range of keyed ND Series and ALX Series outside lever functions. The 03-231-RHO is the correct selection for all standard Rhodes KIL lever positions. The 03-231-8RO applies only at doors where the tactile designation was originally specified. When sourcing a replacement lever, confirm which version was originally installed before ordering to avoid a mismatched trim assembly.

NDE Series Coverage and 03-042-RHO Rose Pairing

The 03-231-RHO is documented in five Service Manuals including the Schlage NDE Series Parts and Diagrams Manual. The NDE exit device uses an outside lever trim, and the 03-231-RHO provides the Rhodes profile for that position on NDE installations. When sourcing a replacement outside lever for an NDE application that originally used a Rhodes KIL lever, including any installation that previously referenced 03-331-RHO, the 03-231-RHO is the current correct part number.

The Rhodes lever design uses the 03-042-RHO (Rhodes Rose) at both inside and outside trim positions. When completing a full Rhodes KIL trim assembly using the 03-231-RHO, the 03-042-RHO rose must be ordered separately in the matching finish.
